You never appoint one creative and hope they work out. You set several of them working at once, and the choice comes last, after the work exists, instead of first.
A brief is a short written description of the work you need made. You pick the kind of work it is and set the project fee, the amount the creative you choose will be paid. Nothing is chosen yet.
even invites 5 people from the front of the queue for that kind of work. Each one accepts and makes a real, finished version of your brief. Nobody is competing for your attention with words. They are all making the thing.
You look at the finished pieces and commission the one you want. Every creative who turned in real work is paid the attempt fee, a smaller fixed amount for having done the work. The one you commission is paid the project fee on top, the full amount you set.
Work here is not won by whoever pitches hardest or has the most followers. Briefs are handed out in turn across everyone signed up for that kind of work. Here is exactly how that order is decided.
You pick the kinds of work you do, and briefs in those categories arrive on their own. There is no bidding, no paying to be seen, and no hunting for jobs. A logo for a dentist never lands with someone who only edits video, and you take on only the briefs you want.
Invitations go out in order of who has waited longest, so everyone comes up in time. The turn is only yours if you take it: accept the brief and turn work in, or the seat passes to the next person in line. Turn in a piece that does what the brief asked and you are paid the attempt fee even if you do not win, or the full project fee if you do. Turn in nothing and there is nothing to pay you for.
This is not a promise about how it should feel, it is arithmetic you can check. Run the rotation over twenty creatives and forty briefs and every single person is invited the exact same number of times: ten each, nobody more, nobody less.
Everywhere else, losing a job tells you nothing. You did the work, you were not picked, and you never find out what the difference was. On even the brief does not close. A room opens for everyone who took part.
